Summer Article
This
past summer the Ansonia FFA was active in several events to both improve their
chapter and motivate their members to get involved. These events included blood
drives, officer training, volunteering at the Shelby County and State Fair, and
participating in numerous events at the Great Darke County Fair.
To start the summer off on a good note, the new officer team went for a relaxing retreat to Lake Loramie for their annual Officer Training. During their trip the officers who are new to the game were showed the ropes and trained up for the new school year. The team was strengthened through a few bonding exercises, and each member was shown how they too could become a leader. Once everyone on the team seemed to be functioning as a single unit, the group sat down to make some well needed goals for the upcoming year. With the future of the Ansonia FFA Chapter for the next year given a few key points to be achieved, the officers parted their ways eager for the rest of their summer to commence.
It wasn’t too long before they came together once more. The Ansonia vs. Mississinawa Grudge Match Blood Drive brought some of the officers back together again. Much blood was donated this day, as officers and members alike showed up to donate to this good cause. Together the two schools, Ansonia and MV, helped organize this event, but in the end it was Mississinawa Valley Schools that came out on top after donating more blood. Reluctantly, the reigning champs, that were Ansonia, had to hand over their trophy. After this loss the Ansonia FFA went on with their summer once more.
Next on the agenda was the Shelby County Fair. During this time several of the officers volunteered their time to help with the pig shows at the Shelby County Fair. Together the team helped contestants control their pigs and assisted in corralling them for further judging. After a long day with the pigs Ansonia FFA officers moved on once more.
Then some of the officers went on to volunteering their time at the State Fair. Here they helped make food for hungry fair goers at the Beef Booth. While some of them helped prepare the food, others took orders, still while others plated the food, all combining to create a truly well-functioning team. After some hard work the group was treated to a lovely tour of the fair.
After helping at the State Fair, the team went on to also holding a blood drive on August 19th. The chapter held this blood drive in the Ansonia Local School’s high school gym, in which they helped establish a strong foundation for the generous blood donors to donate their blood with ease in this comfortable atmosphere. All in all it was a very successful event for the Ansonia FFA.
Lastly on the Ansonia FFA’s list was the Great Darke County Fair. Here a multitude of members participated in showing various animals and entering innumerable varieties of vegetables in the Shop and Crop contest. The Ansonia FFA officers also set up a fair booth demonstrating the many activities they are involved in, giving them a Grade A rating on their booth. A few other officers also partook in livestock judging at the Darke County Fair. During this event the Ansonia FFA team placed second, and Secretary, Amber Bergman, placed fourth in individuals. Other undertakings of the Ansonia FFA at this fair were aiding at the Ag is Cool Booth and the Ag Safety Booth. Within each booth, volunteers helped educated children about agriculture through a series of fun games for children to take part in.
Throughout the summer officers also met on various occasions to make sure that the group was still on track with previous plans set at Officer Training. Also throughout the summer greenhouse employees assisted in keeping the greenhouse thriving and the garden stocked for the Farmer’s Market. Poinsettias and mums were also planted for upcoming sales and the stock was thinned out to make room for upcoming events.
As you can see the Ansonia FFA had a very busy summer, which was jam packed with learning for the entire officer team and all members of the Ansonia FFA.
