Ansonia FFA Attends State Convention
On Thursday, April 30th,
students along with advisors Jennifer Knick and Brad Lentz from the Ansonia FFA
chapter left Ansonia High School at 7:30 a.m. to attend the 87th
Ohio FFA Convention at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus, Ohio. The group of 10
students included Freshmen Cierra Longenecker, Amber Bergman, and Katie Werts,
Sophomores Skyler Marker and Robert Christman, Juniors John Fischer, Megan
Bergman, Nick Mayo, and Molly Walters, and Senior Andrea Barga. After stopping
for breakfast on Thursday morning, the group headed to a tour of the Anthony
Thomas Chocolate Factory. From there they went to the first convention session
and were lucky enough to hear keynote speaker, Curtis Zimmerman. The group also
had a chance to explore 48 different booths all advertising the variety of ways
the FFA links into the daily lives and businesses of our local citizens and
towns. The first session of the day concluded with the voting of the 2015-2016
Ohio State Officers. At 6:30 that evening, the group attended a Keith Anderson
concert, which was also held in the Ohio Expo Center. After breakfast on
Friday, May 1st, the members went to Franklin Park Conservatory and
Botanical Gardens, after which they went to the Animal Clinics. The students
also had a chance to improve their leadership skills and career goals by
attending several career shows and leadership exercises. Then they returned to
the convention where they heard the National Officer Keynote Speaker at the third
session. At the fourth session, the group attended the retiring address of
state president, Sydney Snider. After much hard work on organizing and
collecting information for their books, Nick Mayo, John Fischer, and Stefani
Garrett received gold ratings for their Treasurer, Secretary, and Reporter
books at this session. After putting every ounce of her heart and soul into the
FFA and always striving to improve her supervised agricultural experience or
SAE, Andrea Barga received her State Degree at the fifth and last session of
the convention.
