Rural Safety
Throughout
the month of May, the Ansonia FFA helped educate the elementary students of
Ansonia on Rural Safety. Students were given booklets and presented information
on the proper behavior and use of farm equipment. The Rural Safety booklets by
the Community Safety Net Corporation and this presentation were supported by
many of our local businesses. One third class partners included Knick Farms,
Midwest Ag Transport, Inc., and the Ansonia Lumber Company. Other supporting
partners were Ansonia Auto Parts, Crop Production Services, Dr. Chris Gilbert-
Darke County Veterinarian Service, LLC, Mercer Landmark, The Whistle Stop, and
Thwaits Bar and Grill. Nick Mayo, Andrea Barga, Conner Lewis, Shelby Hartzell,
Molly Walters, Aric Barga, and Daniel Berger helped present a presentation on
the insights of being safe on the farm. Students learned the proper uses of
farming equipment and other power tools. The proper attitude around animals and
other safety precautions were addressed as well. Kids were educated on the ideas
of parent supervision, and they were encouraged to engage in the presentation
by recalling stories of their recent help on the farm. Topics such as safety
around tractors, machinery, grain bins, chemicals, plants, animals, and
recreational activities were all addressed by our FFA members. With the help of
the Ansonia FFA many students were given the proper education on rural safety
that can help them maintain a healthy lifestyle while living on or visiting our
local farms.
