Marigolds for Mom
For Mother’s Day this
year the Ansonia FFA got their hands a little dirty to warm the hearts of our
local mothers. With the help of the Ansonia FFA Greenhouse, the preschool and
third grade classes were able to plant marigolds for their mothers this Mother’s
Day. Not only were the students able to give their mothers their own creatively
decorated potted marigolds, but they also made several visits to our greenhouse
to check on the progress of their flowers. With the help of the Ansonia FFA
Greenhouse the third graders were assisted in their class work as well. Not
only did they get to please their mother’s this Mother’s Day, but with our help
they learned more about the growth of plants to go along with their recent
science class topic. After planting the
seeds in plug trays they placed them in our seed box to start off in the
growing process. Meanwhile the classes took to decorating their pots with
various stickers and drawings of their own creation. After the sprouts had
matured enough, the classes transplanted their little seedlings into their own
customized pots. Once planted the groups made many trips out to the greenhouse
to water and check on their plant’s progress. As Mother’s Day drew near the
groups began to collect their perfectly grown marigolds to take home to Mom. As
you can see, with the help of the Ansonia FFA Greenhouse they not only pleased
their mother’s with their heartwarming gift, but learned a little more about
the production and growth of flowers.
