Ansonia FFA Holds 76th Annual Parent Member Banquet
On March 27, 2014, approximately 225 members, parents, and guests attended Ansonia’s 77th Annual FFA Banquet. The Banquet included the annual silent auction, a blessing by Bernie Niekamp, a delicious meal, an honorary degree ceremony, State Treasurer, Jarred Shellhouse, the annual freshman skit, a presentation of special awards, a year in review slide show, appointment of new officers, and the evening was wrapped up by President Catey Fischer’s retiring address. The banquet was closed by 2014-2015 president Andrea Barga.
The annual silent action was once again a huge success. This year’s auction had 62 items sponsored by many of the local businesses. This year the auction raised approximately $2100. This money will used in Greenhouse Renovation. Some items that were up for auction were dog food, gravel, salon products, tools, restaurant gift certificates, and many more incredible items.
At this year’s banquet, the Ansonia FFA installed four new members as Honorary Degree Recipients. Honorary degree recipients are people from the community who have helped the chapter over the years by donating their time and wisdom to the field of agriculture to help make the organization a success. Tim and Mindy Walters, Mike Gessler, and Jennifer Knick were those chosen to receive their Honorary degrees. Tim Walters aided at the Monte Carlo for many years. His hobby of collecting antique clocks has shown true as he has been able to share his life’s love for these great pieces of art by contributing one to our silent auction countless years in a row. Mindy Walters has made copious copies, printed masses mailing labels, and oodles of rosters. She has also given her time at limitless Monte Carlo nights. Our Ag Department and the Ag Advisors appreciate her more than she knows, even if it is listening to the occasional concern or complaint about one of Ansonia’s finest. Mike Gessler has lent a hand at voluminous FFA Alumni activities. He has been at the horse poker run several times. At the Monte Carlo he not only assists during the night, but furthermore behind the scenes to make it a success. Jennifer Knick has helped the chapter grow over all of her years teaching here. She spends countless hours assisting all of her students in their SAE projects. The Ansonia FFA would once again like to thank the newest honorary members for all that they do for the FFA.
Throughout the night, many awards were given out to the students who have shown extreme interest in FFA and who have worked hard in and out of the classroom. Special awards went to Lydia Sink and Stefani Garrett- Star Greenhands, also Catey Fischer and Taylor Bergman- Star Chapter. Top fruit salespersons from both winter and spring fruit sales also received awards: In 3rd place for the winter fruit sale is the Bergman Sisters, Taylor and Megan, selling $1405. In 2nd place is the Fischer Family, Catey and John, selling $1,433.50. Finally, our top salesman for this year was Robert Christman, selling $3,470 dollars worth of fruit. In the spring sale, the Bergman sisters placed third with $459. Second place was Andrea Barga with $680.50. And, coming in first for the spring sale is Allison Phillippi, with $1,003 of fruit being sold by her. Congratulations to all the award winners.
The retiring officer team including President Catey Fischer, Vice Presidents Taylor Bergman and Andrea Barga, Secretary Makensy Stump, Treasurer John Fischer, Reporter Megan Bergman, Historian Emily Walters, Student Advisor Sam Gasper, and Sentinel Nick Mayo were thanked by the Ansonia FFA advisors, Brad Lentz and Jennifer Knick, for all their hard work before the 2014-2015 officer team was announced. The new officer team, consisting of President Andrea Barga, Vice President Megan Bergman, Secretary John Fischer, Treasurer Nick Mayo, Reporter Stefani Garrett, Student Advisor Heath Barga, Sentinel Lydia Sink, and Chaplain, Robert Christman, are looking forward to fulfilling their duties in the upcoming year.
