Ansonia FFA Holds Their Greenhand and Chapter Degree Ceremony
On Tuesday, February 16th the Ansonia FFA held their Greenhand and Chapter Degree Ceremony. This was a way for the Ansonia FFA to give thanks and award all those members who are very involved in their FFA chapter.
To receive their Greenhand Degree, members had to meet the following requirements they must be an active member in the FFA who is enrolled in an ag class, they must have satisfying plans for a supervised agriculture experience (SAE), they must learn and be able to describe the FFA creed, motto, salute, and mission, they must be able to explain the meaning of the FFA colors and emblem, they must be able to demonstrate the knowledge of the FFA code of ethics and proper uses of the FFA jacket, they must be able to demonstrate knowledge of the history of the FFA organization, the chapter, and the chapter’s Programs of Activities (POA), they must either own or have access to the official FFA Manual or Student Handbook, and they must submit a written application showing they met all these goals. Those FFA members who had all these qualities and achieved their Greenhand Degree included Alyssa Armock, Tyler Neal, Allen Christman, Savanna Boggs, Samuel Rhodes, Megan Christman, Aleesha Gates, Kala Saintignon, Lucas Myers, and Tucker Schlarman.
The members who wished to earn their Chapter Degree had to complete such tasks as having previously received their Greenhand FFA Degree, having completed at least 180 hours of systematic school instruction in agriculture education, having an operation of a supervised agriculture experience (SAE) program, having been an active FFA member enrolled in an ag class, having planned and conducted at least three official functions in the chapter Program of Activities (POA), having earned at least $150 on their own effort or have worked at least 45 hours in excess of their class schedule and planned to grow their SAE, having led a group discussion for at least 15 minutes, having demonstrated five procedures of parliamentary law, having shown progress toward their individual achievement in the FFA awards program, having a satisfactory scholastic record, having participated in at least ten hours of community service, and having submitted a written application to prove they have completed all tasks previously listed. Those who had met the requirements listed above and have been awarded their Chapter Degree included Mark Mayo, Cierra Longenecker, Brett Campbell, Amber Bergman, Max Wardrip, and Katelyn McKenna.
We would also like to give a special thanks to our guest speaker, Mr. Scott Zumbrink, for presenting all those who came to the ceremony with a lovely speech on the prospects of success. Mr. Sumbrink is currently the Darke County Treasurer, and he is also a former member of the Ansonia FFA. Also thank you to Greenhand Degree recipient, Aleesha Gates, for speaking the creed for our gathering, and Greenhand Degree recipient, Samuel Rhodes, for reminding us of the FFA motto, through his wonderful reciting skills. After the ceremonies concluded, all members were provided refreshments in which they mingled with others, and diligently practice the proper conduct of an FFA member. Thank you for all who attended and for all who have been so involved in their chapter to receive the honor of being recognized here.
