Ansonia FFA Holds Chapter and Greenhand Degree Ceremony
On Tuesday February 17, the Ansonia FFA held its annual Chapter and Greenhand Ceremony. At this ceremony FFA members who are eligible receive their Greenhand or Chapter degrees. To receive a Greenhand degree members must be actively enrolled in agriculture education classes, has plans for an SAE, has learned and can explain the FFA creed, motto, salute and the FFA mission statement. They can describe and explain the meaning of the FFA emblem and colors and can demonstrate knowledge of the FFA Code of Ethics and can explain the proper use of an FFA jacket. Members who received their Greenhand Degree were: Aric Barga, Mackenzie Zumbrun, Millie Widener, Katelyn McKenna, Katie Werts, Robert Christman, Zac Longenecker, Rebecca Thornhill, Amber Bergman, Brett Campbell, Leah Wilburn, Rygh Fortcamp, Max Wardrip, Cierra Longencker, Sarah Rhoades, Joseph Bullard, and Mark Mayo.These members received the Greenhand pin for their jackets and a Greenhand certificate. To receive a chapter degree, members must have received their Greenhand Degree, have been enrolled in at least two years of agriculture education classes, have in operation a SAE, actively participate in FFA activities, lead a group discussion, can explain parliamentary procedure, and have participated in at least ten hours of community service. Members who received their Chapter Degree were: Robert Christman, Lydia Sink , Heath Barga, Stefani Garrett, Jailyn Thwaits, Skyler Marker, Kasidy Davis , and Maggie Shrock. These members also received an award and a Chapter Degree pin for their jackets. During the ceremony, District 5 president, Thomas Shaw, spoke. After the ceremony the parents of the new Chapter Degree Recipients and Greenhands had snacks and punch before heading home. A big thank you to all those who helped make this ceremony a special event.
