Ansonia FFA Celebrates National FFA Week
From February 17 through the 21, the Ansonia FFA participated in a copious amount of activities to promote National FFA Week. The week started off with a reward breakfast a Bob Evans. Members who sold over 300 dollars in fruit were taken to breakfast at Bob Evans for a reward. After the breakfast, the Ag ball team traveled to Mississinawa Valley to participate in the Ag Ball tournament. The Ag Ball team consisted of Fidel Cruz, Steven Burnside, John Stewart, Smith, Dylan Garland, Tyler Kress, Chris Gilroy, Austin Long, Sam Gasper, Taylor Bergman, and Emily Walters. Congratulations to the team. Many events were planned for Tuesday, but the events were cancelled due to the closing of school. The next day, Wednesday, members dressed as farmers. The Ansonia FFA held it’s annual blood drive. 43 donations were taken at the drive and there were six first time donors. The penny stall took place third block. (Penny stall is where the students bring pennies for the teacher to count before starting class—stalling the start of class.) On Thursday was blue and gold and official dress day. The officer team also held it’s annual staff breakfast in the morning before school started. Thursday was also penny stall second block. After school on Thursday the Ag Ball team played a basketball game verses the staff of Ansonia Jr./Sr. High. On Friday morning, tractor-cade took place. Tractor-cade is when members drive their tractor to school. Penny stall also took place during first block. Friday was also camouflage and tractor t-shirt day (which every brand you support) and Ag Olympics in the afternoon. Ag Olympics are held every year for the junior high students to participate in. Ag Olympics is basically a race between 7th and 8th grade to see who can finish the activities the fastest. Different activities that were planned in the Olympics were screwing a screw into a board, using your face to find a gummy worm in a pan full of powdered sugar, shucking corn, winding up an extension cord, and chugging milk. At the end of Ag Olympics every year the junior high students vote for one girl student, one boy student, one male teacher, and one female teacher to participate in kiss the pig. Penny Stall, held through out the week, raised $320. The money was donated to the Pennies for Patience program. Thanks to all who participated in the weeks events to make National FFA Week such a huge success in the Ansonia FFA Chapter! A special thanks to advisors Mr. Lentz and Ms. Knick for making this week possible.
