Ansonia FFA Holds 79th Annual Parent Member Banquet
On March 31, 2016, approximately 224 members, parents, and guests attended Ansonia’s 79th Annual FFA Banquet. The Banquet included the annual silent auction, an opening by Katie Werts, a delicious meal, an honorary degree ceremony, a speech by State Vice President Mary Bueller, the annual freshman skit, a presentation of special awards, a year in review slide show, and the evening was wrapped up by the installation of the new officer team. The banquet was closed by 2016-2017 President Amber Bergman.
The annual silent action was once again a huge success. This year’s auction had 72 items sponsored by many of the local businesses. This year the auction raised $1,441. This money will be divided between reinvasions of our FFA greenhouse and local charities. Some items that were up for action were dog food, salon products, tools, restaurant gift certificates, and many more incredible items.
At this year’s banquet, the Ansonia FFA installed eight new members as Honorary Degree Recipients. Honorary degree recipients are people from the community who have helped the chapter over the years by donating their time and wisdom to the field of agriculture to help make the organization a success. Christy Garrett was the first to receive a Honorary Degree. She has helped out at Monte Carlo night. She is always willing to let us use her kitchen and coolers, and she has even helped up order food for many events. Not only has she been a vital part of our chapter for the use of her resources, but she has also had two children involved in the program, both serving as officers. Brian and Lisa Bergman have benefited our chapter in many ways to receive such an honorable award as this. They have also worked at Monte Carlo for the past few years. They have had four active children in our program, all of them being officers. They have hauled students to events and been supportive of the organization for years. Our other Honorary Degree was given to Brian Harrod. He is a past American degree recipient, as well as a past chapter officer. He has donated at least 13 market hogs to the silent auction and he has also provided numerous pigs for the “Kiss the Pig” at the Ag Olympics. He has be a crucial part of the Alumni’s Monte Carlo night, helping at it since it began. Our next recipient was Andrew Riffle. Andrew was a also a past American Degree recipient and active FFA officer. He’s made numerous donations to the silent auction. He has been an active supporter of the FFA by helping at Monte Carlo since it began. The next recipient was Casey Lentz. She helps at the Greenhouse behind the scenes and helps pick out decorative pots and flowers to sell. She also allows her husband to spend most of his time with us officers. Our last recipient is Mr. and Mrs. Fuestaneu. In the past years, they have donated their camper and their lake house for officers to use for officer training. They have also helped with Monte Carlo night for many years. Without the help of these Honorary Degree recipients, the Ansonia FFA would not be the wonderful organization that it is today. The Ansonia FFA would once again like to thank the newest honorary members for all that they do for the FFA.

Top fruit salespersons from both winter and spring fruit sales also received awards: In 3rd place for the winter fruit sale was Skyler Marker, selling $1,132.00. In 2nd place is Mark and Nick Mayo, selling $1,228.50. Our top salesman for this year was John Fischer, selling $1,701.75 worth of fruit. In the spring sale, Megan and Amber Bergman placed third with $251. Second place was Dylan Burnfield with $295.25. And, coming in first for the spring sale is Samuel Rhoades, with $301 of fruit being sold. Congratulations to all the award winners!
The retiring officer team including President Megan Bergman, Vice President John Fischer, Secretary Amber Bergman, Treasurer Nick Mayo, Reporter Maddie Evers, Student Advisor Skyler Marker, Sentinel Robert Christman, Historians Cierra Longenecker and Katelyn McKenna, Parlimentarian Brett Campbell, and Chaplin Katie Werts were thanked by the Ansonia FFA advisors, Brad Lentz and Emily Williams, for all their hard work before the 2016-2017 officer team was announced. The new officer team, consisting of President Amber Bergman, Vice President Skyler Marker, Secretary Katie Werts, Treasurer Robert Christman, Reporter Cierra Longenecker, Student Advisors Sarah Rhoades and Katelyn McKenna, Sentinel Max Wardrip, Historians Aleesha Gates, Parliamentarian Sam Rhoades, and Chaplin Mark Mayo, are looking forward to fulfilling their duties in the upcoming year.
