FFA Week Concludes for the Ansonia FFA
From February 15th to February 19th, the Ansonia FFA held their annual FFA week to help get their members and future members excited about being involved in the FFA. To kick off this week of fun, FFA members who sold $300 or more during the Fall Fruit Sale were invited to attend a breakfast at Bob Evans, in which fourteen members attended. Afterward officers finished off the day with a work day, and a few committee members decorated the school hallways for a little FFA spirit. Human Resources Committee Chair, Brooke Muhlenkamp, and Austin Oliver, a member from the Economic Development Committee, took up the task of decorating the hallways in blue and gold streamers and several FFA emblems.
Each day FFA members were encouraged to dress up in certain attire to help celebrate this occasion. On Tuesday the dress up day was Plaid Day, in which members wore their best plaid to show off their farming spirit. Also on Tuesday the Ansonia FFA hosted their Greenhand and Chapter Degree Ceremony, in which several members were awarded for all their hard work by being given these degrees.
On Wednesday FFA members didn’t just show their love for agriculture but also American, through the dress up day, America Day. During this day members wore as much red, white, and blue as they could, and they tried to sport the American flag in any respectable way they could.
On Thursday, the dress up day was Camo Day, where all members came in dressed to kill in their hunter apparel. Another Event hosted by the FFA on Thursday was a blood drive, and through this event the blood of 25 people was drawn, the equivalent of 75 lives saved. Also on Thursday members participated in Ag Ball against the Staff, despite all their efforts the students lost the basketball game against their teachers. All members who took part in Ag Ball vs. Teachers included Robert Christman, Allan Christaman, Jacob Vietor, Chelsea Noggler, Taylor Brewer, Austin Ditty, Austin Edwards, Logan Miller, and Ethan Tochloug. Another way, in which members tried to get Elementary students thinking about agriculture, was by putting candy in the 5th-8th grade lockers on Thursday.
On Friday, the FFA rounded off the week with an Ansonia FFA T-shirt Day, in which all members wore their club t-shirt. Also on Friday the FFA held a tractorcade, during this event FFA members drove their tractors into school. On Friday, the Ansonia FFA also held Ag Olympics for the 5th-8th grades, to get them excited about joining the FFA. Each grade elected ten students to represent them in this competition, so as to win the title of Ag Olympic champs. Each grades’ group had to go through several challenging activities during our relay and other team building activities, but from games such as Hungry Hippos to Worm in the Pie they all had a great time. After announcing the winners, 6th graders placed first, 5th graders placed second, 8th graders place third, and 7th graders placed 4th, each team was awarded with beef jerky, and the first place team members were each given an FFA water bottle full of candy. Then Ag Olympics was finished off by each elected student and staff kissing a baby goat.
Throughout FFA week many other continuing events occurred. The FFA hosted a corn hole tournament for students and staff in the high school gym at lunch, and the winners were also awarded an FFA water bottle. During class, students were given the chance to stall their class by bringing in pennies for their teachers to count; all proceeds raised during this event went to the children’s hospital. This event alone raised $303 for this great cause. Another fun event which occurred during our FFA Week was our annual emblem hunt, during this event our Advisor, Brad Lentz, hid a quarter sized FFA emblem in the school. Then he proceeded to make tricky clues to where the emblem was hidden. This year the emblem was found by Katie Werts. Lastly was our elementary coloring contest, in which grades kindergarten through sixth grade illustrated their idea of a farm scene. First place winners were awarded a bag of candy and a coloring book, while second and third place were given a bag of candy. In kindergarten first place went to Annie Wendel, second place went to Lydia Klingshirn, and third went to Keigan Jones. In first grade, first went to Michael Shook, second place went to Kensey Homan, and third place went to Mathieu Baldridge. For second grade first place went to Camryn Winner, second place went to Claire York, and third place went to Owen Schmitmeyer. In third grade first place went to Emma Henderson, second place went to Ava Erwin, and third place went to Gabby Leeper. In fourth grade first place went Bailey Schmit, second place went to Riley Garland, and third place went to Alivia Swabb. Fifth grade winners included in first place Jazzlin Warley, in second place Hailey Sebring, and in third place Rebekah Prasuhn. Sixth grade winners include, in first place Kylee Winner, in second place Conner Schmit, and in third place Mackenzie Singer. As you can see, much fun was had through the Ansonia FFA hosting their FFA Week. Not only that, all these activities helped get both present and future members of the Ansonia FFA excited about agriculture.
